Bornéo 1834

Eau de Parfum

A symbol of royalty, the oak tree was very important in France’s history. They were all felled during the French Revolution but Serge Lutens has used rum absolute to recreate this exceptional, iconic woody note to add a comforting and elegant masculine element.

"The French Revolution not only cut off the king's head, but cut down the emblematic oak... by inference, the king of trees." Serge Lutens

"Why did I pick 1834? That was the year Parisians discovered patchouli. In those days, it came wrapped in silk."

An island and a date are among the markers of the discovery of patchouli in Europe. Originally a natural moth repellent, it was slipped into the centre of rolls of silk from Indonesia before the sumptuous scent was discovered by the elegant ladies of Paris in 1834.
Serge Lutens’s bottles are designed with the same care and attention as his fragrances. Elegant faceted bottles crafted from noble materials to exacting standards, these objects of desire all have an immediately recognisable signature style: "Rare is for rare people"
